I know you guys from TRI put a lot of effort in the sequel and this is obvius in Fly!II. Surprisingly I got Fly!II in a very beautiful game box and not in a DVD-case as the most of you wrote. I especially love the Bell 407 helicopter which has IMHO a very pleasent flight behavior. I like as well the new sky coloring effects. I also enjoy the more detailed aircraft exterior although this isn't soooo important to me. And the ground textures look amazing - provided that you are able to use the high detail textures. The easy to use editor is great and something a flightsim essentially needs. Thanks for the many models. But on the other hand - I hate to mention it - there are several disappointing things. I can second that what others said before: I'm not sure whether Fly!II is a real step of improvement. I know there are a lot of things changed, but others got lost or look so incomplete and unripe that they aren't really pleasing. The first and most important thing is that I lost performance. Also after a day of reading the forums and trying to tweak Fly!II I get only 10-12 fps in the C172 cockpit(with two rows of gauges visible) at FSO with 20 NM low and 10 NM medium view distance. That's why all the A/C aren't really flyable from the cockpit with my system (Athlon 700, TNT2 Pro 32 MB, 256 MB RAM). Form outside they fly very well, but unfortunately I'm not the typical sim A/C spotter. This is especially disappointing, because you guys of TRI said that the performance has improved by the changes in the scenery engine. Now the engine is "improved" the fps worse and nearly all the previous add-ons aren't compatible. I'm sorry but this makes absolutely now sense to me. Lot's of hours have been spent in making the water reflecting and bringing birds in the air, but you missed to create roads and rivers. Without these landmarks VFR flying is impossible. The coastlines may look better in some parts of the world, but here in Germany it's still a angular coast which looks not like a coast. The buildings of the detailed areas in the USA look good and are placed right, but here in Europe it's horrible. I "teleported" to London - I found Heathrow with some but careless made buildings. And there were no taxiways. In contrast in Gatwick were taxiways, but no buildings. Downtown I also couldnt find something like the Westeminster a.s.o. or I missed it, because I had no river Themes to inform. Now I went to Paris. Charles de Gaule seems to be made with real effort, but the downtown area is so bad investigated. For creating my sceneries I also had sometimes a look into FS2000 sceneries, which does not mean that I adopted them. This would have been a helped for you, too. For comparision I scanned an image. ![]() ![]() There could be more mentioned, but I also know the story and the constraints behind it. However there might be maybe some decisions determined in another way. Sometimes I wish I could load the helicopter into Fly!1. Take care Simeon http://fly.simeon-schuerer.de Bonn/Germany |
