RAID 0 + Red Hat 9.0

Hallo,

habe einen on-board (Promise Fast Track) Raid controller und betreibe 2 Platten als RAID 0.
DOS, Win2k und WinXP funktionieren mit dem Partition-Magic
Bootmanager PQBoot problemlos.
Habe nun die Win2k Partition gelöscht und wollte Red Hat 9.0 installieren. Er kennt nicht einmal die Platten!
Von der Fast Track Hompage habe ich einen Linux 8.0 Treiber gesaugt,
aber als Linux-Neuling habe ich keine Ahnung, wie man den schon bei der Installation einbindet.
Kann mir jemand einen Tipp geben?

[INSTALLATION]
Extract the contents of the TGZ file on to a formatted floppy disk.
Label the disk "FastTrak Driver Disk".
2.1 To install the FastTrak Series Linux Driver into an EXISTING SYSTEM:

1.) For RHF upgraders ONLY, append parameters
when linux booting.
Boot loader is LILO:
if graphics menu please press Ctrl-X turn to TEXT menu.
when "boot:" prompt appears press the TAB key.
append parameters see as Note 2 below.
then press enter to booting.
Boot loader is GRUB:
press 'e' when GRUB menu appears, move to the kernel line
and press 'e' to append parameters see as Note 2 below.
then press 'b' to booting.
--- OR ---
If NOT an RHF upgrader, ignore step 1 and proceed to step 2.
2.) Get driver "ft.o" from FastTrak Driver Disk by issuing commands :
# gzip -dc modules.cgz > modules.cpio
# cpio -idumv < modules.cpio
(this loads the Modules from the subdirectories which you need)
Load FastTrak Driver by issuing commands :
# insmod scsi_mod (only necessary on kernel 2.4.x, get it from
/lib/modules/..)
# insmod ft.o

2.2 To install the FastTrak Series Linux Driver into an NEW SYSTEM

1.) Start the RedHat Linux Installation with CD ROM booting.
2.) At the "Welcome to Red Hat Linux ..." installation screen, a
prompt labeled "boot:" will appear at the bottom of the screen.
3.) For RHF upgraders ONLY, please press TAB key and append parameters
(see Note 1 below).
--- OR ---
If you are NOT an RHF upgrader, type "expert" (without quotations)
or "linux dd" at the "boot:" prompt, then press the enter key.
4.) At the "Devices" dialog box, insert the FastTrak Driver Disk in the
floppy drive and then select "OK" or "Yes".
If installing RedHat 7.1/7.2, please skip to Step 9.
5.) After reaching the "Devices" dialog box again, select "Add Device".
6.) When asked "what kind of device would you like to add?", select
"SCSI", and then select "OK".
7.) Press the "P" key and scroll down to "Promise FastTrak Series ....",
and then select "OK".
8.) The installation process will now display "Promise FastTrak Series
Linux Driver" has been found. Select "Done".
9.) For RHF users ONLY, when the Boot Loader Configuration menu is displayed,
please type parameters (see NOTE 2 below) in the Kernel parameters field.

If NOT an RHF user, ignore step 9 and proceed to step 10.
10.) Continue with the installation as normal.
11.) If installing RedHat 7.2 or Update Linux to RedHat 7.1/7.2.
Press Ctrl-Alt-F2 when installation at the "Congratualations" menu.
Other RedHat version please click "Exit" button to finish installation.
12.) Insert the FastTrak Driver Disk floppy, Issue commands to load FastTrak
driver.
#mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
#cd /mnt/floppy
#./setup-ft
13.) Choose your selection here, after FastTrak driver setup successful.
Please Press Ctrl-Alt-F7 and click "Exit" button to finish installation.

Hallo und danke für die aufmunternden Worte

Als Linux-Neuling stehe ich mit der Kommandozeile und dem Manual eher
auf Kriegsfuss, schon gar nicht bin ich "Experte".

Übrigens: Was ist ein RHF upgrader ?
Einem deutschen Linux-Forum (www.spotlight.de) entnehme ich, dass
Fast-Track Treiber zu RedHat 8.0 nicht zu 9.0 kompatibel sind.

Kenn das Problem mit Promise, Promise weigert sich an sich die Spezifikationen die für die Erstellung von Treibern notwendig wäre, offenzulegen, d.h. die entwickeln Linux Treiber selbst, aber leider immer mit einiger zeitlicher Verzögerung, bis ein Treiber für das gerade erst erschienene RH 9 rauskommen wird, das wird, denke ich, noch einige Monate dauern.

Also werde ich es mit SUSE 8.1 versuchen, das erkennt zwar meinen
RAID-Controller will dafür aber meinen Bootmanager (BootMagic) nicht.
Aber damit werde ich das Forum ein anderes Mal belästigen.
