vorsicht: weil es mal hieß, emacs könne alles, nur nicht kaffeekochen, setzte sich jemand hin und baute eine bestimmte schnittstelle in emacs ein (details weiß ich aber nicht)

irgendwann macht sich also jemand die mühe und präsentiert das erste EmacsOS - default editor ist aus performance gründen dann natürlich vi

Ha. I say let them try -- even vi+perl couldn't match the power of an
editor which is, after all, its own OS. ;-)
