auszug: 3. A high frequency problem: EMI noise.. Your CPU switches millions of transistors on and off, your switching regulators switch on and off. No wonder that there are parasitic frequencies on the surface of the CPU and the heatsink. The heatsink is like an antenna. Those parasitic frequencies are no problem at the rated speed of the CPU, but when you raise the frequency of your CPU, the EMI noise problem gets worse. The result: a super cooled CPU does not run stable at the overclocked speed. But there is a device that can filter those parasitic frequencies, the Silent Serpent. At this moment they only exist for socket 7. Brian will try to test such a device, to tell you all if they are worth there price (about $30). I heard from several people that they do not make your CPU much more overclockable but that enable you to run your overclocked K6-2 300 to 350 at 2.2V instead of 2.4V. To overclock a K6-2 400 however, a silent serpent may be the key to unlock the potential of your CPU. As CPUs at higher frequencies will benefit more from such devices. gruss, snowman |
