SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install the Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro joystick on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may be prompted to locate the Hidusb.sys file, which cannot be located or receive the following message:

The file hidusb.sys on unknown is now needed.



CAUSE
This behavior may occur if the file Hidusb.sys is on the Windows 2000 CD, and is in a compressed format.



RESOLUTION
To extract a copy of the driver and then finish the installation, follow these steps:

Log on as the Administrator.


Click Start , and then click Run .


In the Open box, type cmd , and then click OK .


Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.


In the command window, type the following lines
EXPAND drive :\i386\hidusb.sy_ c:\winnt\system32\drivers\hidusb.sys

exit
making sure to press the ENTER key after each line (where drive is the letter of your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive).


Restart the computer.
