Mit der Anspielung auf dein Profil ist dessen Leere gemeint wie Du ja auch richtig erkannt hast und ja auch ein P3 500 ist ein respektables Gerät.Es kommt immer drauf an wofür man es nutzen will.
PS: ich wollte Dich keinesfalls *anmachen* nur fand ich die Eingangsfrage sehr sehr weit gefasst und in meiner 2ten Antwort stand auch schon die Lösung für *Normalverbraucher*.

schon klar was du meinst,
wird mein cd-brenner system,
mit ein paar Steuerungen für Licht usw.

Overview

RAID 5 combines striping (writing data across a set of drives) and redundancy. RAID 5 provides redundancy by generating parity information then RAID 5 stripes both segments of data and parity information. Just as with stripesets, the I/O requests are broken into smaller “chunks” and striped across the disk drives until the request is read or written. Then parity data enables the controller to reconstruct the I/O data if a disk drive fails. Thus, it becomes possible to lose a disk drive without losing access to the data it contained. (Data could be lost if a second disk drive fails before the controller replaces and reconstructs the first failed disk drive. A power cut or failure could cause data corruption.)

The relationship between the chunk size and the average request size determines if striping maximizes the request rate or the data-transfer rates. Set the chunk size or let the controller set it automatically.

Keep these points in mind when planing the RAIDsets:
A controller can support up to 20 storagesets, consisting of RAIDsets.

A cache module is required for RAIDsets, but write-back cache need not be enabled for the RAIDset to function properly.
A RAIDset must include at least 3 disk drives, but no more than 14.
Evenly distribute the members across the device ports to balance load and provide multiple paths.
RAIDset units are set to WRITEBACK_CACHE by default which increases a unit’s performance.
RAIDsets are particularly well-suited for the following:

Small to medium I/O requests
Applications requiring high availability
High read request rates
Inquiry-type transaction processing
RAIDsets are not particularly well-suited for the following:

Write-intensive applications
Applications that require high data transfer capacity
High-speed data collection
Database applications in which fields are continually updated
Transaction processing
