"Dreamfleet 737 vs. PSS A320"
As the whole discussion on comparing the new PSS bus with the DF737 already starts, some unstructered thoughts on this subject as a starter for a probably long thread with many fore-seeable flames to come up:
I generally buy all good FS(2K2) add-ons, because I simply want to encourage the guys who build this stuff to continue their work with some donations(and luckily I can afford to do so )).
I bought the DF737, the PSS 772, the PSS Seneca, the PSS Bulldog (which I know could have had for free) and know the PSS Bus. I did not buy the PIC 767 yet, because you can not buy it in a download version but I am thinking of buying the boxed version.
99% of the time I use the DF737, because the panel is simply gourgeous. And it gives you everything you need on one view. Although it is not a 3Dpanel to me it looks like one. Simply said: I do not need a 3dpanel for the DF737 The DF737 flight dynamics are suberb and combining the DF737 with Precision Flight controls as I did (Jetliner-Yoke, -Pedals and Throttle Quadrant) makes it really as real as it can get. It becomes even unbeatable with the German Airport scenery sceneries and then flying through whole Germany.
As I am an European I used to be a bus fan with FS98 which I used before FS2K2, but Dreamfleet made me a believer.
The panel concept which PSS started with the Seneca is completely different and is to me less intuitive and more complicated than the one they used before with the 772.
(Excurs: I am still waiting for the FS2K2 patch for the 772, because in my view people should first get their existing products working before they release new products. PSS could have even charged me for the FS2K2 patch and I would have made no complaints, but I think it would have been their duty to release the patch asap, because it is not simply that some panel switches do not work on the PSS 772 in FS2K2. Due to my impression the whole flight model is screwed in FS2K2 and requires a patch.
Coming back to the new PSS bus I think it was a mistake to make the IFR panel the default 2Dpanel and not the VFR one, because the outside view is basically barred with the IFR panel. Now people again start to mess with config files (which I never had to do with the DF737 except for inserting my FS Meteo gauge).
Additionally everybody should ask himself really the question when the 3dpanel really matters. For flying at FL300 and using the hat switch to scroll through the panel and look outside the windows to say "look how cute you can get it". In 3D view The gauges are hard to read which makes it even stressing to do an approach with the 3d panel when you alread have the navigation settings completed and you have to switch to the 2dpanel for whenever you want to really click a switch, etc. Additionally my first impression is that some important features, like the Hold page in the FMS, have not been implemented. After the whole noise PSS made about the bus release this is a miracle to me.
Simply said: The panel concept which PSS used for the 772 is still much better and they should have stayed with it. The 3dpanel is a nice-looking add-on but I personally do not need it.
What I did not like especially was the whole story PSS made out of the release of their new bus: The countdown in their forum some screenshots to heat up the people, then the release of a semi-complete website, finally the announcement of the bus release date simply for being hacked down on the eve of the release by some amateurs.
They should have simply released the FS2K2 patch for their 772 sooner this would have served the community much more (and in the end probably also their wallet)!!!
One thing which is not related especially to the implementation for the DF737 and the PSS bus, but which I already started to realize when using the PSS 772 is, that within a 737 cockpit the pilot really still has some real flying work to do, but within the full glass cockpits as the 772 and the bus have he is restricted to being mainly a computer operator. The thing which made me realize this most is the throttle implementation within the bus cockpit which to me basically seems to works like a gear shift in a car with automatic drive.
I also would like to strongly to encourage both Dreamfleet and PSS to continue to both continue AND enhance their existing products. PSS seems to follow more the "develop, release and move on to the next project" approach, as they already said that they would only take care that the 772 (and 744) will work in FS2K2, but they seem not willing to add new features to the 772. Again: I would be willing to pay for a new release.
