OK, this going to sound REALLY stupid, but thanks to Guitarrero the mystery of at least one cause of the anvshell.exe crash has been nailed down. Brace yourself:

Ask yourself this: Have I ever changed the location of my "My Documents" folder to be anything but the default?

If you answered yes to this, you are a victim. Change it back to the default (even if you are not using Explorer, like me) and BANG, no more ANVSHELL.EXE crash.

WOW! Thats THE stupidest bug I have EVER heard of.

And on a side note they also got new modified Asus 21.88c Drivers for Windows 2000 only
