Hallo Jobia,
dich dürfte noch das hier interessieren – ich finde es ziemlich fantastisch:
The way Ben set up the scenery format, the huge dvds-full of scenery actually contain RAW DATA ON THE SCENERY, not the actual textures themselves. In other words, the scenery will say "we want certain textures here, and certain buildings here", but the actual textures and buildings themselves are part of the SIMULATOR (not the huge scenery dvds) that can be more easily downloaded and updated. What this means is, as we release new small-versions of X-Plane (8.21, 8.22, 8.20, etc) those new small versions can contain new "skins" for the fundamental scenery that you get on DVD. In other words, we can release "scenery updates", that are downloadable packages... you install them and "viola!" your scenery has a new, improved "look and feel", with better-tuned textures and buildings and stuff, WITHOUT you having to re-install (or re-purchase) all the new scenery... since the huge 54 gig of DATA is already installed... all you will need to download is the much smaller "skin" whenever we come out with an update to it. Now, initially, you won't have to download ANYTHING... the dvds will have it all, but I am sure that over the months following initial release we will have many little updates that improve the look and feel as new skins are developed, tweaked, tuned, and uploaded.
