Stall Turns:
As this figure is definded below, the name 'Stall Turn' is very misleading. Laymen interpret the term 'stall' as meaning the engine stops (like in a car). This does not happen! Pilots rightly interpret 'stall' as meaning an over-critical angle of attack,
yet this is the complete opposite of what we are actually trying to archieve.
The American term 'Hammerhead' is rather more descriptive in that it describes the rapid yaw rotation that we see at the top of the figure.
Sprich: Hammerhead wird die Figur in Amerika genannt, Stall-Turn in England. Es ist ein und die selbe Figur. Kann ja sein, dass das bei Hubschraubern anders ist. Beim Motor- und Segelkunstflug ist es aber ein und die selbe Figur.
Alan Cassidy ist unter anderem Vertreter der Engländer in der FAI International Aerobatic Commission. Er müsste es eigentlich wissen.
