Update on the AVSIM Library

Last night, our on-site technician replaced the second piece of hardware in the Library server in as many weeks. Our 4-port SATA controller was suffering with some sort of problem which was causing inconsistent reads -- the underlying cause of some downloaded files being corrupt for some people. Our prognostication is that the on-board cache RAM on the controller has developed a fault.

We now have a new, and faster, SATA controller in place and the server is configured to use the new device. Right now, we are running an automated integrity check of all 40,000+ Library ZIP archives, and comparing those results to a similar integrity check taken a few days ago on our full backup of those files. Our initial results suggest that around 30 files out of over 40,000 may be, regrettably, irretrievably corrupt.

Once again, we thank you for your patience and tolerance during this unfortunate period of problems for the AVSIM Library. Trust me, we're about as fed up with the hardware problems as you are! We hope to have better news regarding the Library by Sunday.
