The command to solve the problem is Shift-M
The stupid feature that Microsoft put in to kill the electrics if the
engine(s) isn't started within a couple of minutes or so is causing a
problem with your flap operation. Quite simply - if you don't get one
engine started fairly rapidly (2-3 minutes) you lose the ability to use the flaps. The lever still moves, but no flap operation results.
That's the effective end of the flight.
This of course kills a realistic startup procedure from cold. With the great flight management capability that you have provided, the normal procedure would be to connect ground power, then fire up the APU and check electrics/hydraulics/pneumatics are powered OK, and then sit back and do the pre-flight and FMC preparation. Do this and you're dead - no flaps. You have to fire up one of the engines and get it on line straight away whilst you do all the preflight stuff.
