Linux DAU bittet um Hilfe bei GUI-Konfiguration
 

Hallo zusammen,

ich schätze mal, daß ich eine ewige Frage ausgrabe:
Ich habe von der aktuellen CT mal Knoppix ausprobiert und war doch recht beeindruckt, wie sich Linux als Desktop-System weiterentwickelt hat. Nun wollte ich das ganze mal auf der Platte haben und führte munter /usr/local/bin/knx_hdinstall aus. Soweit sogut, funktionierte prächtig! Nach einem Neustart funktionierte allerdings KDE bzw. der XServer nicht mehr, einige Sachen habe ich schon ausprobiert (dpkg-reconfigure, xf86config). Was ich nicht ganz verstehe: von CD alles kein Problem, sobald das Zeug auf der Platte liegt geht nix grafisches...
Weiß da vielleicht jemand Rat?

Ist Linux unter der Oberfläche doch so kryptisch und benutzer-/hardwareunfreundlich geblieben?

Hi tcs,
"KDE oder X-Server funktioniert nicht" ist aber nicht sehr aussagekräftig :D, bekommst Du Fehlermeldungen oder bist Du nach dem Hochfahren einfach nur auf der Konsole?

Was passiert wenn Du Dich als Root einloggst und X oder startx eingibst?

Wenn Du Strg + Alt + F7 drückst siehst dann was?

Falls Du jetzt einen grauen BS mit einem schwarzen X siehst läuft zumindestens jetzt schon mal der X-Server.

Jetzt brauchst dann noch einen Display Manager um Dich einzuloggen.
Das ist wahrscheinlich kdm, dann gibt es noch gdm und xdm. Die sollten im Verzeichnis /etc/init.d drinnen sein.

Gib mal in der Konsole als root kdm oder gdm oder xdm ein.

Probiere das mal aus und poste was dann passiert.

knoppix ist von einem sehr erfahrenen linux user erstellt worden. so wirklich geeignet ist es nicht für eine hd installation, zumindest jetzt gibts noch einige fehler die anfänger nicht so einfach lösen können.

wenn du dich ernsthaft mit linux auseinandersetzen willst, solltest eine richtige linux installation durchführen.

Hab jetzt mit Knoppix-CD gebootet und komme nicht an den syslog dran, werde ich dann auch noch reinstellen sobald ich kann.

Option "UseFBDev" "true"

stell diese option auf "false" oder deaktiviere den framebuffer per dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 wenn du es per halb-klickbunti machen willst.

Hm, hab die erwähnte Option auf "False" gestellt, hat nicht funktioniert (ausgegebene Meldung folgt noch, war was mit "fatal I/O" oder so).
