Debian/Woody & Xfree86 & ATI Mach64 & Sony G500
 

OK - ich geb's zu: X war noch nie mein Ding, hat bei mir nie so wirklich funktioniert. Ein Linux-Server mit Konsole - kein Problem, aber mit X steh ich auf Kriegsfuss.

Neuester Versuch: Debian/Woody auf einer alten Kiste von mir installiert. HW: ATI Mach64 2MB GraKa; Sony G500 21" Monitor, eine MS-3-Tasten-Maus auf /dev/ttyS1

Problem1:
"dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" Bildschirm laut Werten im Handbuch, Farbtiefe 8 Bit und die Maus mit dev/ttyS1 und Microsoft führt zu einem startenden X11 ohne sichtbarer Maus :-( (XF86Config-4 als Anhang dabei).
Wenn ich aber die Mauknöpfe drücke, gehen die entsprechenden Context-Fenster auf.

Problem2:
Konfig wie oben aber Farbtiefe 16 Bit => Fehlermeldung:
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(==) ATI(0): Chipset: "ati".

(EE) ATI(0): Depth 16 is not supported through this adapter.

Hab ich den falschen Xfree?? In der sources.list hab ich
deb http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian-non-US/ woody/non-US main contrib non-free
stehen. Fehlt da noch was?

Mit den 8Bit könnte ich ja noch leben, aber die nicht sichtbare Maus ist ein Problem. Kann mir da ein X11/Debian-Guru helfen?

Dass mit das "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" jedesmal eine US-Tastatur aktiviert, steht auf einem anderen Blatt.

Als Mit-Mozilla und Debian-streiter versuche ich natürlich gerne dir zu helfen.

Das richtige Modul und das richtige Xfree hast du auf jeden Fall, da "xserver-xfree86" die 4.1.0-11 ATM ist und über die steht auf www.xfree.org :


through 4.1.0:

Accelerated support is provided for Mach64, Rage, Rage 128 and Radeon chips. Unaccelerated support is provided for all of the others except the Mach8 and some early Mach32 chips by the "ati" driver.

Und wegen der Maus: Kommentier mal die "Generic Mouse" aus, das sind die Einstellungen für eine PS/2 Maus mit Scrollrad. Und nimm das emulate3buttons raus, du hast ja 3!
