SID oder SARGE?
 

Hallo, bin grad draufgekommen, dass testing "nur" xfree 4.2 drauf hat.

Benötigre aber wg. verschiednen (bekannten) Problemen* 4.3

Gibts irgendwo 4.3 für testing?
Oder soll ich besser ein dist-upgrade auf SID machen?
Wie stabil ist das momentan?

eingetippt ....

... weil ich den Ziegel morgen wieder zum arbeiten brauch konnte ich nicht auf 4.3/testing warten ...

Norbert Tretkowski hat einen XFree 4.3.0 Backport für woody, keine Ahnung ob der auch mit sarge funktioniert

Ich verwende SID und es läuft stabiler als einige andere Linuxdistributionen. Bis jetzt konnte ich keine Abstürze verzeichnen.

Aber mehr als Internet/Office mache ich auch nicht ;)

A number of people chipped in to finish XFree86's patch audit, which
is now done, and 4.3.0-2 was uploaded to unstable on Wednesday.


und weiter unten:

* Finish XFree86

I imagine we should expect a few final cleanups and bug fixes before
XFree86 4.3.0 can be released with sarge. Let's budget for that, anyway.


Sollte also, für alle anderen die das lesen, nicht mehr lange dauern.

Norbert Tretkowski's XFree Backport sollte ohne Probleme funktionieren.

Ich hatte vor längeren eine Woody Installation auf der dieser Backport lief, auf SID (damals noch 4.2.x) geupgraded. Die XFree 4.3.0 Installation blieb erhalten und war voll funktionsfähig.
