Betrifft hauptsächlich die 80GB Platten!!!
Why do EIDE drives disappear from the IDE RAID array or system after a short period of error-free operation?

Affected drives:

WD EIDE drives with capacities between 40GB & 120GB

WD EIDE drives with greater than 120GB capacity with a date earlier than 3/25/03.
Problem:
WD EIDE drives are dropped from an IDE RAID array or system after several days or weeks of error-free operation.

Solution:
The problem is a result of a feature that reduces idle acoustic noise in desktop drives. This feature may cause a timeout likely (though not exclusively) in an IDE RAID environment. To disable the feature, you can run a simple Western Digital utility to turn off a single bit in the drive’s run-time configuration. Disabling of this feature will NOT impact normal system operations. No firmware or hardware changes are required.

Sorry wenn ich dumm frage aber im Raid 0 macht es nichts?
(mein Englisch ist nicht das wahre)

Meine zwei WD 80GB-Platten im Raid1 sind seit Mai noch nie verschwunden. ;)

Für jedes Raid gilt die Empfehlung bei gewissen Platten und Bedingungen.
Steht allerdings schon eine ganze Weile auf der WD-hp, in den Foren liest man eigentlich von keinen auffälligen Problemen mit WDs im Raid.

Ich habe 2 WD800JB im Raid 0 hängen und hatte derzeit keine Probs.
Nur weiss ich jetzt nicht funzt alles weil ich *Glück* habe oder weil das angesprochene Prob Raid0 (oder meine Platten) nicht so sehr betrifft.

Problem ist theoretisch auch bei Raid0 möglich,aber unwahrscheinlich.
Kritisch ist es bei Raid 1, da die fehlerhafte Spiegelung, weitere Fehler verursacht, und dann das OS abstürzt.Speziell XP ist da sehr heikel!!!

ich hab detto Raid1 allerdings mit W98SE/W2000 ohne Probs schon länger mit der WD800JB laufen.
Bei meinem Freund stürzte gestern die 2. Garnitur Platten ab, und das innerhalb 1es Monats.Mit XP als OS. Klar wurden die Platten bei Ditech getauscht. Die haben sich jetzt schon ein Image von seinem Pc gezogen, weil er 1x die Woche was mit dem Rechner hat. Bis jetzt war er nicht imstand, 1 Woche damit durch zu arbeiten.
Da hier sehr viele mit den WDs sind, nimm ich an, dass es interessant und informativ wäre, es zu posten

Wie schon geschrieben, machen die beiden Raid-Platten keine Probleme.
Mir sind allerdings zwei WD 80Gb (mit 8MB Cache) nach jeweils einem Monat (die eine im Sat-Receiver, die andere im PC) kaputt geworden.
Speziell die im PC war nicht sonderlich viel im Einsatz, sie ist aber auch (wie die anderen Platten) am Highpoint angeschlossen gewesen.
