Es gibt zwar unter Linux einige Würmer, allerdings sind diese Dinge alle harmlos. Solange du immer alle Sicherheitspatches einspielst und eine Firewall verwendest kann eigentlich nichts passieren.

Sämtliche Windows Email Viren sind unter Linux nicht funktionsfähig und daher keine Gefahr.

@Manx: uff, das scheint haarig, da brauch' ich mehr Zeit, mach ich später.

Ich hab' jetzt die Antivir-SW (Datei 'avlxmgt.tgz', 1.8MB) 'runter geladen und mir auch einen privaten Key besorgt - wie installier' ich das jetzt?

Willst das wirklich installieren? Lt. Readme brauchst für den 'Avguard' noch ein Kernel-Module, welches compilieren+installieren musst.

Es gibt einen ganz ordinären Scanner von Antivir inklusive GUI (tkantivir).

Ich find' keine Connection zwischen dem 'AntiVir MailGate für Linux' (hier die FAQs dazu). Da drin find' ich nur:

Ich kann mir schwer vorstellen, dass man Kernel kompilieren muss etc. nur um die SW zu installieren. Und dass ich nix davon in den FAQ find'. Oder reden wir aneinander vorbei(?) ist 'Avguard' dasselbe wie 'AntiVir MailGate für Linux'?

Hab dich falsch verstanden, ja. :rolleyes:
AvGuard ist IMHO der ON-Access-Scanner (so wie im Windows: das Ding im Systray). Für den On-Demand Scanner brauchst des Kernel-Module, so wie ichs verstanden hab.

Jetzt kenn' ich mich überhaupt nicht mehr aus - ich will keinen Mailserver aufsetzen, ich will einfach mit Mozilla unter RH9 meine Mails empfangen und die sollen gecheckt werden.

Vielleicht hab' ich ja die falsche Datei 'runter geladen.

Aber wenn man Kernel kompilieren muss ... irgendwann muss man ja damit anfangen(?) .... wenn Ihr mir das tröpferlweise gebt...?

@Manx: danke für die Info (ich schmeiß' die Flinte mit Antivir noch nicht ins Korn, wo ich mich doch offiziell registrieren musste).

Nochmal. Windows Email Viren sind nicht lauffähig unter Linux. Es wird im normalfall kein Virusscanner benötigt. Das mag zwar für einen Windowsanwender vollkommen unnatürlich erscheinen, aber so ist es :)

Den einzigen wirklichen Einsatzbereich sehe ich in Zusammenhang mit einen Email Server auf den auch Windows Clients zugreifen.

Ich empfehle ausserdem Ximian Evolution statt Mozilla als Email Programm :). Evolution ist ohnehin der Standard bei Red Hat.

and cannot be removed, access to the file is blocked.

The automatic internet updater runs as a daemon and has
the responsibility of making sure your AntiVir software is
up-to-date (internet access is required). The automatic
internet updater can be configured to check for updates at
specific times and intervals. It can also be configured to
send email or simple log update activity. Updates include
both data files and the AntiVir programs themselves.

Although the automatic internet updater is provided with
AntiVir for UNIX, it is also possible to make manual
update checks using the command line scanner. This is
done with the --update argument. Checking for updates
manually is EXACTLY the same as using the automatic
internet updater. This means that users may choose to
use the command line scanner in a crontab as opposed to
using the automatic internet updater. Cron is a much
more flexible and configurable scheduling daemon than
the automatic internet updater.

The features of AntiVir for UNIX include:
+ scan files on OPEN/CLOSE/EXECUTE (requires Dazuko)
+ configurable path protection (requires Dazuko)
+ block access to concerning files (requires Dazuko)
+ log/email alert notification
+ repair/move/rename concerning files
+ automatic internet updates (requires internet access)
+ command line scanner

Extra Server-specific features include:
+ scanning within compressed files (requires Dazuko)

NOTE: Without a valid key, AntiVir for UNIX will run in DEMO
mode. This means that it will only report concerning files
through syslog and will not block access or handle the
concerning files in any way. Compressed files will not be
scanned and updates will not be available.

Lies dir das/die Posting(s) vom Phillip in diesem Thread und den Virus-Thread nochmal durch, und überleg dir, ob es für dich wirklich notwendig ist, das zu installieren. Wenn du es wirklich installieren willst, folge den Hinweisen im Readme des o.g. Files resp. poste nochmal. :)
